Green Infrastructure

What is Green Infrastructure?
Green infrastructure is a nature-based solution that combines natural and engineered systems to address environmental issues such as flooding, droughts, and pollution. It is a valuable resource for developers, planners, and land-use decision-makers.

Rain Gardens
Rain gardens are attractive and functional gardens of native perennials planted in a shallow depression designed to capture, store, and filter stormwater back into the ground.

Green Roofs
Green roofs are building roofs planted with vegetation, helping to manage stormwater and mitigate the urban heat island effect.

Bioswales
Bioswales are shallow basins planted with vegetation in parking lots, along roads, and beside sidewalks. They are designed to capture rainwater and allow it to flow through native vegetation that naturally filters and cleans the water before it seeps into the ground.

Rainwater Harvesting
Rainwater harvesting is a system for collecting rainwater from rooftops and other surfaces. The collected water can be reused based on its treatment. Systems vary from simple rain barrels to complex networks of pipes and filters to reuse water for residential or commercial use.
Permeable Pavement
Permeable pavement refers to any pavement
designed to allow for water infiltration.
